The OMEGA high-resolution velocimeter is an active optical diagnostic that provides 2-D images of phase shifts in a reflected, short-pulse laser. The diagnostic is used to infer laser imprint in laser-accelerated foils by determining the variations in velocity across the surface. The Innovative Concepts Group assists the Diagnostic Development and Integration Group in setting up and running OHRV. The Group has developed open-source data analysis codes for OHRV. The diagnostic is being used by the group to study the mitigation of imprint by foam layers on targets.
