KoDI Diagnostic

The knock-on deuteron imager provides multiple penumbral images of the emission of deuterons “knocked-on” by neutrons from DD and DT fusion in ICF experiments. 1, 2 The energy of the deuterons can be determined from pit size in the CR39 plastic nuclear track detectors used. The data can be used to infer the shape of both the hotspot and the cold fuel surrounding the hotspot. The Innovative Concepts Group is involved in the development of data analysis techniques for both individual data sets and 3-D reconstruction using multiple instruments. The 3-D data reconstruction techniques will also be applied to the 3rd x-ray line-of-sight project.
