Katie Hilleke

High-Energy-Density Physics Theory Group
Assistant Scientist

Dr. Katie Hilleke received her B.S. in chemistry at Harvey Mudd College in 2013 before starting her Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the research group of Prof. Danny Fredrickson, studying the complex crystal structures of intermetallic compounds. She completed her studies there in 2019, with a dissertation entitled “Every Atom Heard: Advancing the Chemical Pressure Analysis and Elucidating Point Substitutions in Intermetallics.” From there, she went to the University at Buffalo for a postdoctoral appointment with Prof. Eva Zurek, studying crystal structure prediction and high-pressure chemistry. She joined LLE in 2023 as an Assistant Scientist, where her research interests include complex phase behavior and developing theoretical tools to investigate the chemistry and physics of materials under extreme conditions.
