Foam Structure Fabricated in Support of New Target Designs

A stochastic foam structure was fabricated at LLE via two-photon polymerization direct laser writing (TPP-DLW), a high-precision 3-D printing method. The foam was designed, printed, and characterized in support of novel target designs that will be used in future campaigns on OMEGA and the National Ignition Facility. The design was modeled using nTopology software, printed with the NanoScribe Photonic Professional GT and imaged with Zeiss FESEM and variable pressure detection. Fiber diameters range from 2.5 to 3.1 µm on inset image. The structure was created by Target Fabrication Group Leader, David Harding, Production Manager, Mark Bonino, and TPP Specialist, Sarah Fess.
