Kale Weichman

Scientist

Dr. Weichman is a theoretical and computational scientist in the Plasma Theory Group at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Their current research interests include particle-in-cell simulation of relativistic short pulse laser-plasma–interaction, spatiotemporally shaped laser pulses, plasma-based accelerators, and laser-plasma radiation sources. Dr. Weichman received a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2013 and a Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from the University of California, San Diego in 2020. Their Ph.D. research explored effects of strong applied magnetic fields on relativistic laser-plasma–interactions. Dr. Weichman is an alum of the Department of Energy Computational Graduate Fellowship. They joined the Laboratory for Laser Energetics in 2020.
