Underdense Plasma Target Area

The underdense plasma (UDP) target area in the Multi-Terawatt laser (MTW) Target Bay was completed this year in preparation for laser-plasma amplification experiments. Scientist, Jessica Shaw is seen aligning the novel 1200-nm, 15-mJ Raman seed laser into the UDP chamber, where it will be amplified in an underdense plasma by the 1054-nm, 10-J MTW laser during experiments planned for this summer.
