The FLUX System

Alex Bolognesi (foreground) and Steve Herman (background) working on the noncollinear optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) pump for the Fourth-generation Laser for Ultra-broadband Experiments (FLUX) laser. FLUX is one of the potential paths to the increased-bandwidth, next-generation inertial confinement fusion drivers that will enable higher coupling efficiencies. This system is a diode-pumped version of the OMEGA EP crystal large-aperture ring amplifier (CLARA) which was first developed for the Multi-Terawatt (MTW) laser prior to being used in OMEGA EP. It will be used to pump the first two spectrally incoherent broadband stages of the FLUX System. The inset shows the second-harmonic crystal.
