Each year, for the first 31 years of LLE’s Summer Research Program, high school juniors have been paired with LLE’s scientific and technical staff to spend eight weeks on individual research projects. The 2020 pandemic postponed that program until this summer. Shown are eight high school seniors along with the director of the program, Steven Craxton, with administrative support from Kimberly Truebger. The students were accepted into last year’s program and have returned to participate virtually before going on to college. They are Semma Alfatlawi (Victor High School/U. Pennsylvania) advised by C. Forrest; Felix Huang (Webster Schroeder HS/MIT) advised by H. Rinderknecht; Audrey Kohlman (Churchville-Chili HS/Cornell U.) advised by S. Craxton; Meghan Marangola (Brighton HS/Harvard U.) advised by S. Craxton; Tyler Petrillo (Webster Schroeder HS/Cornell U.) advised by S. Craxton; Leo Sciortino (School of the Arts/U. Rochester) advised by R. Kidder; Aditya Srinivasan (Pittsford Sutherland HS/Cal Tech) advised by A. Sefkow & M. Lavell; and Andrew Wu (Pittsford Mendon HS/U. Pennsylvania) advised by K. Marshall. They will present their research in a virtual symposium to family, teachers, and the Laboratory.
