Dr. Rick Spielman, Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, Professor of Physics at the University of Rochester, and longtime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers professional association (IEEE) is the recipient of the 2023 Erwin Marx Award. The Erwin Marx Award recognizes outstanding contributions to pulsed-power technology by an individual over an extended period of time. The award and plaque are funded by IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society’s International Pulsed Power Conference. The Erwin Marx Award was dedicated to the memory of Professor Marx and his concept of the cascade impulse voltage generator that bears his name. Rick has spent more than 40 years as a leader and innovator in the field of pulsed power. He has led or participated in the design of nearly every pulsed-power facility with powers greater than 10 TW in the United States. Rick’s multi-decade involvement and leadership for the advancement of pulsed power make him an ideal recipient of the 2023 Marx Award.
