Two plaques honoring LLE’s Nobel Prize winners, Gérard Mourou and Donna Strickland, hang on the walls of LLE to commemorate their achievements. The first shows photos of Mourou and Strickland as well as a replica of the Nobel Prize medal and an image of their research findings. The second memorializes the room where their chirped-pulse–amplification research occurred and led to ultrahigh-power laser pulse generation. Mourou and Strickland were awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics “for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics” for their invention of chirped-pulse amplification at LLE in the 1980s.
