Office and Lab Expansion Update

Since the start of construction on 5 July 2022, the LLE office and lab expansion project has made rapid progress including site clearing, grading, installation of building utilities, casting of all concrete foundations, erection of the steel superstructure, and installation of the roof decking. To facilitate winter work, the building is wrapped in a white heat-shrink plastic barrier that helps keep the elements out and heat in. The interior spaces are heated to permit the pouring of the concrete floors in freezing weather (shown in the inset). Shown just to the right of the white-wrapped building are a cement truck and a concrete pump truck with a white articulated arm. The pump truck moves the cement from the ground level to the upper levels of the building. The small red Line Dragon (concrete placer and dragger) distributes the cement where needed while dragging the large 6-in. black supply from the pump truck behind it. Within a week of pouring a floor, other construction activities begin on that floor. Thanks to a fantastic fall and early winter construction season, the project is on track for a March 2024 completion.
