Members of LLE’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council joined the University of Rochester recruitment representatives in attending the national American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Conference in late October. The conference focuses on supporting a network of Indigenous and Native American students and professionals in career, studies, and workforce development in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This was an exceptional opportunity to network, connect, and learn how to best support members of this community at LLE. Furthermore, participation in this conference provided us with ideas and resources to build a more-intentional pipeline for new hires and students in our effort to attract and sustain a more-diverse workforce through equity and inclusion. The conference, which comprised workshops, discussions, and community building, had representatives from some of the leading companies in STEM-related industries and research laboratories, including Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
