Alison Christopherson

Alison Christopherson, a 2020 graduate of the University of Rochester’s Department of Mechanical Engineering studying under Prof. Riccardo Betti and current Staff Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, was elected a Kavli fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The nation’s brightest young scientists from industry, academia, and government are chosen as Kavli Fellows. A committee of NAS members selects the participants from young researchers who have already made recognized contributions to science. While at LLE, Christopherson’s work was highly regarded, and she won many awards including the 2022 American Physical Society Prize for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis, 2019 Laser and Particle Beams Young Scientist Award, and Inertial Fusion Sciences and Applications outstanding talk by a student.
