The Laboratory for Laser Energetics was recently featured in a Scientific American online article by University of Rochester Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Adam Frank. Researchers from the Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures are using data obtained in laboratories, such as the Omega Laser Facility, to reproduce the pressures found in the center of planets in order to understand planets outside of our solar system. The data obtained in these experiments make it possible to explore what the conditions of these planets might be like and are providing a path toward understanding areas of our universe that are currently unreachable.
