Electrical Safety Responsibilities

Employees/Staff/Students

  • Immediately report any deficiencies to your supervisor and/or Safety Officer(s)
  • Only perform tasks for which you are qualified. Any person who is not specifically trained and qualified shall not perform system or equipment maintenance.
  • Request additional training to avoid working beyond your level of qualification or comfort.
  • Learn the hazards present in your work area.
  • Question possible unsafe practices. Bring your concerns to the LLE Electrical or Chief Safety Officer if necessary.
  • Participate in annual safety training courses.
  • Never override or disable a safety-related interlock, alarm, detector, or device without the specific permission of the Laboratory Safety Officer.
  • Never operate, energize, or otherwise use any tool, system, or equipment that is known to have a safety defect.
  • Never intentionally allow yourself to be shocked by electricity.


Supervisors/Advisors

  • Immediately report any deficiencies to your supervisor and/or Safety Officer(s)
  • Ensure employees and students are adequately qualified to perform their jobs.
  • Adhere to all LLE safety policies when assigning personnel to tasks.
