This has been a week of sad news. Jay Eastman, the second LLE Director passed away, as did Barukh Yaakobi, a pioneering LLE spectroscopist and plasma scientist. Jay led LLE through a significant transition after the departure of the founding director, Prof. Moshe Lubin. He also was the project manager and chief engineer for the first of the major lasers at LLE, OMEGA 24. Jay left LLE to successfully run a business in the optics industry sector. Barukh Yaakobi was an outstanding plasma spectroscopist who impacted fields from fundamental plasma physics—ICF to x-ray lithography. He was a pioneer on OMEGA 24 and published seminal papers from 1983 to 2017. Our condolences go out to their families and to our LLE family who knew and worked with these great leaders.
