Maitrayee Ghosh, Graduate Student in the High-Energy-Density Physics Theory Group and advised by Dr. Suxing Hu, was awarded the IBM-Zerner Graduate Student Award at the 60th Sanibel Symposium. She is one of the three winners out of over one hundred graduate students entering the contest at this annual symposium. Her research explores nanodiamond formation in compressed hydrocarbons under ~Mbar pressures. She has discovered that the hydrogen adsorption at the diamond surface is the key to stabilize the nanodiamond formation and she is preparing a manuscript on these findings to be submitted to Physical Review Letters.
