Duc had his start in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) research while under his graduate research advisor Gregory Moses at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His project involved implementing a nonlocal thermal transport model into DRACO, a 2-D radiation–hydrodynamics code developed at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics and used for simulating direct-drive ICF experiments.
Joining the Laboratory for Laser Energetics in 2015, his research work has since expanded to include simulating multiple direct-drive inertial confinement fusion experiments performed at the Omega Laser Facility, validating numerical models, and further developing DRACO. Duc’s research interests include nonlocal thermal transport, shock physics, magneto-radiation hydrodynamics, and computational physics.
