Peter V. Heuer

Scientist

Peter Heuer is a scientist working in the Innovative Concepts Group in the Experimental Division at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. He is the Principal Investigator for the knock-on deuteron imager and third-line-of-sight x-ray imager, both of which are used to diagnose spatial asymmetries in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosions. His other research interests include the fundamental physics of magnetized plasmas (magnetized shocks, magnetohydrodynamic transport in magnetized plasmas, and self-generated magnetic fields), the development of high-repetition-rate experimental platforms for high-energy-density physics (HEDP), and the creation of open-source analysis tools and metadata standards for plasma physics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2020 for experiments on the formation of quasi-parallel collisionless astrophysical shocks.
