Congratulations to recent Pittsford Sutherland High School graduate Eddy Wu, who attended the week-long Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles this past May, together with winners of science fairs from approximately 75 countries around the world. Eddy, who was one of LLE’s 2023 Summer High School Research Program students, qualified for the ISEF on the basis of his success at the local Terra Rochester Finger Lakes Science and Engineering Fair held in March of this year. He presented work from his LLE project, “Development of New Beam Configurations for OMEGA to Achieve Highly Uniform Indirect Drive Implosions with Cubic Symmetry,” which won a third-place grand award in the Physics & Astronomy category and a second-place special award from the Patent & Trademark Office. In addition to displaying their projects, students enjoyed panel sessions with several scientists, entrepreneurs, and an astronaut. Several LLE students have attended the ISEF in previous years, but Eddy is just the second to win an award. Eddy was advised by program director Stephen Craxton.
