OMEGA EXPERIMENTS

OMEGA Experiments Group Photo

The Omega Experiments group studies the physics of laser-direct-drive (LDD) inertial confinement fusion (ICF). Our current research goal is to optimize the performance of LDD cryogenic target implosions at the Omega scale and demonstrate the scaling of implosion performance to the National Ignition Facility (NIF). We also perform related physics research at the Omega Laser Facility, including indirect drive and magneto-inertial ICF, nuclear physics, magnetized high-energy-density physics, and advanced diagnostic development for the National ICF Program.
