How to Be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
As our individual roles in society are self-examined, we inevitably face the question of where do we lie on the racist spectrum. I have to admit that I have often asked myself this question: How racist am I Ibram X. Kendi, the author of “How to be an Antiracist,” explains unquestionably that being on the non-racist edge of the spectrum is not at all sufficient for progressive members of society. Kendi clearly makes the case that every person needs to strive to be an Antiracist. Time magazine’s review includes: “Kendi dissects why in a society where so few people consider themselves to be racist, the divisions and inequalities of racism remain so prevalent. He punctures the myths of a post-racial America, examining what racism is—and what we should do about it.”
I found the key message that Kendi offers us is that “The only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it—and then dismantle it.” Through Kendi’s wisdom, I came to explore and acknowledge my own decades-long evolution from being somewhat racist to a bit unsure, to non-racist, leading to an ongoing personal journey toward being an Antiracist. I invite you to take this journey for yourself—many people will appreciate your effort.
