About Joint Operations
Joint operations couple OMEGA 60 and two short-pulse OMEGA EP beams in the OMEGA target chamber to acheive 5 primary missions:
- Extend HED research capabilities with high-energy and high-brightness backlighting
- Perform integrated advanced-ignition experiments
- Develop advanced backlighter techniques for HED physics
- Staging facility for the NIF to improve its effectiveness
- Conduct ultrahigh-intensity laser–matter interactions research
