Graduate Students in the High-Energy-Density Physics Theory Group

Yanhao Ding

Yanhao Ding

Mechanical Engineering Department

Yanhao Ding is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester. He received his Master's degree from Harbin Institute of Technology. Yanhao joined the HEDP group at LLE in 2016 and works with Dr. Hu on computer simulations to understand material properties at extreme conditions. His research interests include high-energy-density physics (HEDP), plasma physics and first-principles calculations for warm dense matter (WDM). Currently, he is working on developing the time-dependent density-functional-theory (TD-DFT) code for investigating the transport and optical properties of HED plasmas.

Maitrayee Ghosh

Maitrayee Ghosh

Chemistry Department

Maitrayee was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta, India in 2014. In the very same year, she moved to the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, India to pursue a Master of Science in Chemistry. Her Masters' research work involved the theoretical study of electronic transition using semiclassical dynamical methods. After graduation, she was appointed as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the DST-SERB project, Government of India, at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science. As a JRF, she studied the pseudo Jahn–Teller effect in two-dimensional materials, viz. silicene, germanene, and stanene. In 2017, Maitrayee joined LLE as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry. Her research interests in Dr. Suxing Hu's group primarily revolves around the study of ultrafast dynamics in the attosecond regime and the investigation of the chemistry of the core electrons under high pressure.

Josh Hinz

Josh Hinz

Physics Department

Josh is a Ph.D. student in the Physics Department at the University of Rochester from Oswego, NY. In 2016 Josh completed a B.S. in Physics at Buffalo State College with a minor in mathematics. His interest in statistics as well as quantum mechanics drew him to the HEDP Theory group in 2017 where he works with Dr. Valentin Karasiev and Dr. Suxing Hu on high-energy-density physics studies.

Project Title: A Machine Learning Approach for Finite Temperature Density Functional Theory Calculations

Reetam Paul

Reetam Paul

Mechanical Engineering Department

Reetam Paul joined the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester in 2016 after graduating in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2015. Reetam joined the HEDP Theory group at LLE in 2017. His research with Dr. Suxing Hu currently involves using density functional theory to construct high-pressure phase diagrams of materials.
