At 12:00 PM EST on Friday, December 7th 2018, all LLE web sites will go offline due to an electrical power shut down that will affect
all areas of the Laboratory. LLE web sites may start to come back online Saturday evening, December 8th and all web services
should be restored no later than 8:00 AM EST on Monday, December 10.

Graduate Studies

With the construction of the National Ignition Facility a 1.5-MJ laser at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the field of high-energy-density physics (HEDP) and inertial confinement fusion (ICF) will be among the leading research areas in physics. The University of Rochester with its 60-beam, 30-kJ OMEGA Laser System, is the world's leading academic institution in the field. The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Physics & Astronomy offer a Ph.D. program with a concentration on high-energy-density physics and inertial confinement fusion studies.
