The load on the LLE mail server continues to grow, causing degradation of service. To accommodate this increasing demand, CSG will transition all users over to IMAP as their mail-retrieval protocol (most users currently use POP3). IMAP and POP3 provide similar services, the main difference being the way mail is stored (and accessed) on the mail server. Eudora supports both protocols, and the transition from POP3 to IMAP should be smooth for most users.
When you switch to IMAP, Eudora will create a new server-based folder for you (i.e., your e-mail messages will be stored on the mail server, NOT your local machine). Folders on the server are accessible from any machine that can run an e-mail client or a web browser (a link to LLE's WebMail service is available on the main LLE Support page).
Folders everywhere!
After your mail protocol is changed, check Eudora's left-hand pane.
There should be a new folder named <Dominant> and several subfolders.
You may delete all of the new subfolders except "Inbox" and
"Trash." The <Dominant> folder resides on the LLE mail
server and any new e-mail messages will be directed to the Inbox folder
under <Dominant>. The "Eudora Mail" folder and its subfolders
reside on your local machine and previously received messages will remain
untouched. Therefore, when you check for new e-mails, you should look
in the Inbox folder under <Dominant>.
You may move messages from one subfolder to another and/or from the server to your local machine by dragging and dropping the messages. You may also create new folders on either your local or remote directories.

Taking out the Trash
Under IMAP, there are two ways to manage message deletions: By default,
CSG configures Eudora to move messages to the Trash subfolder within
your <Dominant> folder when you delete a message. To permanently
remove messages, you must navigate to the Trash subfolder and delete
the messages (again).
Alternatively, you can set up Eudora to mark messages that you delete from a folder residing under <Dominant> for deletion. These messages are removed permanently when you choose "Purge Messages" from the Message menu. If you choose this method, you can configure Eudora to display the status for messages in your various folders. This will show you which items are marked for deletion.
When using IMAP you will have two trash folders. Your original Trash (with the trashcan icon, under the Eudora Mail folder) contains any old messages you have deleted, plus any new messages that you delete from your local machine (typically, this would be messages that you created, saved copies of, and later deleted or any messages that you moved to a local folder and later deleted). The Trash folder under <Dominant> contains any messages that you delete from any folder within your directory on the server.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When I select the "Open In Mailbox"
toolbar button, it opens my old (POP3/local) In folder. Can I make it
open my new IMAP Inbox instead?
A: No. We have found no way to do this and Qualcomm has not announced
any plans to fix this.
Q: Can I move some of my POP3 mailboxes to the IMAP
server?
A: You cannot move an entire mailbox. However, you can create a new
mailbox under <Dominant> and then drag and drop your existing
POP3 messages into the new folder.
Q: Why does a message lose its label when I transfer
a message out of the IMAP Inbox?
A: IMAP servers are unable to retain label information. Labeling is
internal to Eudora and can be used only on local folders.
Q: When I converted to IMAP, Eudora created subfolders
named "Deleted" and/or "Outbox" (etc.), which appear
under <Dominant>. What are these?
A: "Deleted" and "Outbox" are created by WebMail.
You can delete these mailboxes if you no longer need them. WebMail will
automatically create new boxes if you use it again.
Q: Will my previously created filters continue to
work?
A: Yes. The messages will continue to be sent to the folder(s) you previously
specified.
