Stanley Skupsky
Director Theory Division
Dr. Stanley Skupsky is Senior Scientist and Theory Division Director
at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics of the University of Rochester.
As division director, Dr. Skupsky leads LLE’s staff of theoretical
scientists, the computer hardware support group, and the software development
group.
Skupsky’s initial appointment at LLE was as research associate in 1974.
Since that time he has held a variety of positions including scientist (1976),
senior scientist (1980), group leader (1983), and division director (1998). He
also has the distinction of being the co-inventor of two U.S. patents based on
work performed at LLE.
He became a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1993 and received the
Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research the same year. His areas of research
have included properties of high-density plasma, nuclear and x-ray diagnostics,
and laser irradiation uniformity for direct-drive laser fusion.
Dr. Skupsky received a B.Sc. in Physics from Wayne State University in 1967,
a M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1974, and a
Ph.D. in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from the University of Chicago in 1971.
He has authored or co-authored over 90 published papers and over 160 conference
presentations.
