Dr. Douglas W. Jacobs-Perkins is the Engineering Division Director and Chief Safety Officer at the University of Rochester's
Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE). The Engineering Division's mission is to provide multidisciplinary technical expertise for developing and maintaining
custom equipment and the infrastructure needed to conduct research at LLE. As Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Jacobs-Perkins is responsible for maintaining a safe
work environment at LLE by ensuring that proper training, guidance, and oversight is provided for all persons and work areas.
Dr. Jacobs-Perkins received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He worked in
industry as a product design and test engineer for ten years before returning to the University of Rochester to obtain his Ph.D. in electrical engineering
(Ultrafast Optoelectronic Imaging). He joined LLE in 1998 as a staff scientist in the Diagnostic Development Group.
His contributions at LLE include work on the 2-D SSD (smoothing by spectral dispersion) system, control system programming
and operational support for LLE's cryogenic program, chief programmer and software architect for the ACSL (aperture-coupled strip line) pulse-shape control
system, and design architect for the Target Viewing Systems on OMEGA and OMEGA EP.
